New York Knicks superfan and well-known comedian Tracy Morgan took a shot at Bronny James before the 2026-27 NBA season opener.
Morgan might have cried happy tears while watching the Knicks raise their first championship banner in 53 years to the rafters, but he definitely felt sad at the end of the night when the Knicks lost 106-100.
LeBron James picked up a debut win for a new franchise, and he might have had Morgan’s pregame words about his son, Bronny, add some fuel to his fire.
Tracy Morgan’s damning verdict on Bronny James’ skills
Morgan was speaking to the NBA on NBC crew before the game and blurted out his unprompted opinion of Bronny James as a basketball player.
“Bronny looks like he got JUCO ball written all over him. I just wanna say how I feel. What do you want?”
Bronny is entering his third season with the Los Angeles Lakers, recently beating out fellow 2024 draftee Dalton Knecht for the final roster spot on the franchise for the 2026-27 season.
James has averaged 2.7 points over his career as an end-of-the-bench option whom the Lakers are hoping will develop into a capable 3-and-D guard.
Unfortunately, he did not look appealing in the 2026 preseason with the Lakers, averaging 2.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists in roughly 16 minutes per game. He was also incredibly turnover-prone through this stretch, and shot roughly 25% from the field.
With this season being Bronny’s first without his father as a teammate, there’ll be a lot of pressure on the 22-year-old to prove he deserves his spot in the NBA without the appeal of his father protecting him.
Morgan saying Bronny is a junior college-level player is quite insulting to a player going into his third NBA season, coming off playing real playoff minutes for the Lakers last season.
James will likely never be a high-volume scorer or creator, but if he can start to excel in his role as a POA defender who can stretch the floor, he could have a long NBA career which lasts years after his father’s inevitable retirement.
