IMPHAL, OCT 13 (NPN): Manipur police on Tuesday busted a racket operating social media groups distributing sexually explicit content of Manipuri women and child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Thirteen youths, including a Child in Conflict with Law (CCL), were arrested in ‘Operation Dignity’ launched by Bishnupur district police.
Police seized 14 mobile phones and one laptop allegedly used in circulation, trading and monetizing non‑consensual explicit videos and photographs of local women, including CSAM.
Apart from the minor, the arrested individuals were college students and dropouts who allegedly operated social media groups charging monthly subscriptions of Rs.150–Rs.500 to distribute sexually explicit content and CSAM.
The operation, led by SDPO Moirang police station under the supervision of SP Bishnupur, was initiated after a tip‑off on October 3 regarding monetization and circulation of non‑consensual explicit media across Telegram and WhatsApp.
A suo motu case was registered under the IT Act, POCSO Act, and BNS.
The arrested youths were identified as N Rajesh Singh alias Maipakchao (21), H Dhanajit Singh alias Taison (19), H Rojit Singh (19), M Clinton Singh (28), Aria Singh (24), S Saphaba Singh (19), S Simpson Singh (34), K Rakesh Singh (18), Ch Robert Singh (27), Cavendish Singh alias Ingocha (21), Alexander Singh (31), Kh Bipin Singh (31), and one CCL.
Of them, five were from Bishnupur district, four from Imphal West, two from Kakching, one from Thoubal, and one CCL.
SP Bishnupur Ksh Rabikumar, addressing a press conference, said the arrested youths were administrators and users of channels hosted on messaging apps. He alleged that the content distributed also included CSAM, and added that investigation was underway to trace the wider network, financial transactions, and additional victims.
Police revealed that administrators used “teaser previews” on public channels to lure subscribers into exclusive groups with varying membership costs, including yearly renewals. Most content featured local women, though material from other states was also traded. Preliminary findings indicated that some videos were recorded by the accused themselves.
So far, investigators have identified over 150 channels and groups, of which 38 have been neutralized.
