KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 — Flash floods hit several parts of the Klang Valley after heavy rain this afternoon, as a Lembah Subang resident raised concerns over recurring floods in the neighbourhood, alleging that an unfinished pedestrian walkway project may be obstructing nearby drains.
Flooding was reported in several areas, including USJ 1, USJ 7, Sunway, Ara Damansara, Kota Damansara, Kampung Baru Hicom and Shah Alam, with inundated roads disrupting traffic.
“Can the minister look into the problems faced by residents here, who have to deal with flooding in our neighbourhood every time it rains?” Threads user _anuarlatif said in a post today.
The user alleged that soil and construction materials left beside the main road in Taman Putra Damai, Lembah Subang, had entered nearby drains, blocking the flow of water during rain.
The user also claimed that work on the pedestrian walkway had remained unfinished for a long time, blaming the contractor for the recurring problem.
“When it rains, soil and materials fall into the drains, eventually blocking them,” the user said.
Petaling Jaya City Council acknowledged the complaint and asked the user to provide the full address of the affected location so it could check the site and determine what further action was needed.
“Please provide the full address of the affected location to facilitate checks and further action by the council,” the council said.
Another Threads user, amm.yusopp, also reported flooding in Kampung Melayu Subang.
The alleged link between the unfinished walkway and the recurring floods has not been independently verified, while details on the extent of flooding at the two neighbourhoods and its impact on residents were not immediately available.
