Sunday's 27-27 tie at the Washington Commanders was a tale of two halves for Giants quarterback Jameis Winston.
New York's starter since Jaxson Dart's injury completed 33 of 54 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns, overcoming a first-half struggle that included a fumble to give Big Blue (3-1-1) a chance against Washington (1-3-1).
"I thought he was amazing in the fourth quarter," said Giants coach John Harbaugh. "I thought he was amazing in the second half. I thought his ability to come out and change like that -- we changed our offense up and tried some different things -- and he really settled into the things we did offensively, and he was amazing. First half, he wasn't.
"And he'll be the first to tell you that, but that's on everybody. Like I tell our guys, nothing good is all the one person. We're all responsible for all the good and we're all responsible for all the bad or the not good, so he's right in the mix with everybody else that way. But I thought -- I called him up, broke the huddle. I said: What he showed out there was really remarkable."
Through four games, Winston has completed 76 of 132 passes for 805 yards and six touchdowns to three interceptions.
His team is 2-0-1 in his three starts, with the two wins coming in close calls against the 0-5 Tennessee Titans and the 1-4 Arizona Cardinals.
"I always focus on what my heart desires, and I said this over and over again, my desire is to be the New York Football Giants' Super Bowl-winning quarterback, right -- my desire is to be a great starting quarterback in the NFL," Winston said.
"I dreamed of this, this is who I am and I know I'm going to continue to get better and find ways to help this team win football games."
New York's recent trade with the Minnesota Vikings for J.J. McCarthy is part of the push to salvage the season, and he made his debut by attempting two rushes in situational snaps.
Winston pointed to his time playing for the Saints in New Orleans where he overlapped with Taysom Hill, a former quarterback and utility player who situationally played alongside Winston.
"I think the coaches get paid a lot of money to make decisions and do what they do," Winston said. "And I got a chance to play with one of the best ones of all time to doing that, Taysom Hill.
"So, whatever is required for this team to win, I'm for that."
