The Food Safety Department inspected sweet manufacturers and related establishments across the capital ahead of the festive season and found lapses in hygiene, cleanliness, food storage, and prescribed food-handling practices at several units, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said on Tuesday (October 20, 2026).
Departmental teams also collected food samples from various establishments as part of enforcement and surveillance activities. “There will be no compromise on citizens’ health amid festive celebrations,” said Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
She said the Delhi Government’s citizen-centric approach places public health, safety, and welfare at its core. The true joy of festivals lies in ensuring that every family can trust the hygiene and quality of the food it buys for its home, she added.
The CM said that the demand for sweets and other food products rises during festivals, making compliance with prescribed hygiene standards during their manufacture, storage and sale even more important and the government takes matters related to public health seriously.

Ms. Gupta said all establishments engaged in the food business must take full responsibility for complying with rules on hygiene, safe storage, employee training, and proper food-handling practices. “The government is committed to ensuring that citizens have access to safe and hygienic food and that no one’s health is compromised amid festive celebrations. Awareness, accountability and compliance with prescribed standards are essential to protecting public interest and public health,” she said.
