A fire broke out at Hyundai Motor Group's Uiwang research center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, prompting firefighters to respond, authorities said.
The fire started at about 11:40 a.m. on the 20th at the research center in Samdong, Uiwang, according to fire authorities.
After receiving a report of "heavy black smoke," fire authorities deployed about 30 pieces of equipment, including pump trucks, and some 80 firefighters to the site to battle the blaze.
No casualties or property damage have been confirmed so far.
The Uiwang city government sent an emergency text alert telling nearby residents to move away from the site and asking drivers to take detours because of the fire at the Hyundai Motor Group research center.
Police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage once the blaze is extinguished.
