Mighty Wanderers climbed to the summit of the FDH Bank Premiership after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over struggling Creck Sporting Club, with a scrappy second-half winner from Peter Ng’ambi proving enough to separate the sides in Blantyre.

For long periods, Wanderers appeared frustrated by a disciplined Creck side determined to halt the league leaders’ momentum.
Despite dominating possession and territory at Mpira Stadium, the Nomads found chances difficult to convert in a contest where clear openings were at a premium.
The visitors’ resistance was typified by the display of Clever Chikwata, whose commanding aerial presence helped repel a succession of Wanderers corners and crosses during a goalless first half.
The match turned shortly after the restart when Creck were reduced to ten men. Mphatso Phillimon was shown a second yellow card and then a red following a challenge on Wanderers goalkeeper Dalitso Khungwa.
The dismissal came after an earlier booking for an altercation involving Wanderers captain Emmanuel Nyirenda, who was also cautioned.
Even with the numerical advantage, Wanderers struggled to find a breakthrough until 15 minutes from time.
Veteran midfielder Isaac Kaliati delivered a free-kick from the right flank that created confusion inside the Creck penalty area. Amid the scramble, Peter Ng’ambi reacted quickest, volleying beyond goalkeeper Emmance Nyirenda to secure the decisive goal.
Ng’ambi’s contribution earned him the Player of the Match award and moved Wanderers to 35 points from 17 matches.
Creck coach Ernest Mtawali cut a frustrated figure after the final whistle, directing his criticism towards the officiating.
“It’s very important that we should be fair. Football is about fair play. No team should be favoured in football if our game is to improve. Teams should be winning fair and square,” he said.
Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira hailed his side’s perseverance against opponents who have often proved difficult to overcome.
“We have never had an easy game with Creck. This match too was a tough one but it’s important that we have collected three points. We need to continue working hard in the forthcoming matches,” he said.
The victory lifted Wanderers to the top of the table, although their stay there could prove brief if FCB Nyasa Big Bullets defeat MAFCO on Sunday.
For Creck, who remain 15th with 13 points from 17 games, the battle against relegation continues. For Wanderers, meanwhile, this was another reminder that title challenges are often built on afternoons when style gives way to resilience.
