Leonard touted their impressive performance on both ends, including leading by as much as 48 points.
“You couldn’t ask for a better welcome-back game, you know. We won, we have a good team effort out there defensively, and got out on transition offensively,” said the two-time Finals MVP in the postgame interview.
He acknowledged that he is still adjusting in his return to Toronto, which he led to its first title in 2019, but issued a strong message to the home crowd.
“Just still getting acquainted with all my teammates, the offense, the defensive schemes. It’s the first game, so we gonna keep building and try and get better,” added Leonard.
“Just thank everybody for coming out. We’re gonna try to make a special season. Hopefully, we can keep this rolling, and the best is yet to come.”
