The police commissioner in Cross River, Ajo Ordue, has urged communities to partner with the police to tackle crime, electoral violence, cultism and drug abuse.
Mr Ordue made the call during familiarisation visits to Ogoja and Ikom area commands on Tuesday.
He urged traditional rulers, youth groups, traders, transport operators, and other stakeholders to provide credible information to security agencies to strengthen grassroots policing.
Mr Orduer, however, condemned jungle justice and warned residents against assaulting or killing suspects regardless of the allegations against them. He urged communities to hand over suspected offenders to the police for investigation and prosecution, stressing that every suspect is entitled to due process.
Mr Ordue also warned political actors and their supporters against electoral violence, intimidation, and destruction of property, while urging youths to shun cultism and drug abuse.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to community-oriented policing and urged residents to report suspicious activities and cooperate with security agencies to protect lives and maintain peace.
