TASEK GELUGOR: A 10-month-old baby boy died after being found weak at his babysitter's home today.
It is learnt that the baby was in good health when his mother sent him to the babysitter's home about 5.40am.
At 9.50am, the babysitter found the baby weak and lethargic after feeding him milk several times since his arrival.
The woman sought her husband's help to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before taking the baby to a government health clinic in Sungai Dua for treatment.
However, the baby is believed to have died before reaching the clinic.
Initial physical examinations reportedly found no visible bruises on the infant's body, while the cause of death has yet to be determined.
Police have detained the 25-year-old babysitter to assist in the investigation.
Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abdul Rahman confirmed that an arrest had been made in connection with the case.
"The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001," he said.
Section 31(1)(a) states that any person who has a child in their care and neglects or abandons the child, or exposes the child to circumstances likely to cause physical or emotional injury, may be fined up to RM20,000, jailed for up to 10 years, or both.
It is learnt that the babysitter was also caring for the baby's two older brothers.
