CANDLE prices are expected to remain stable amid expected demand ahead of All Saints’ Day on Nov. 1 and All Souls’ Day on Nov. 2, or “Undas,” the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said.
“So far, for BNPCs (basic necessities and prime commodities), there is no price increase,” Trade Secretary Maria Cristina A. Roque told reporters on the sidelines of the SGV Tax Symposium on Monday.
She said the DTI has been monitoring the prices of Undas staples, such as candle products.
“We haven’t received any letter yet [from BNPC manufacturers] requesting [to raise prices,] so for now, there’s no price increase,” Mr. Roque said.
This year’s observance of Undas is expected to boost demand for candle products.
Candles are one of the 204 stock-keeping units (SKUs) of BNPCs being monitored and controlled by the DTI.
Other SKUs include canned goods, milk, bread, noodles, salt, bottled water, detergent soap, laundry soap, batteries, and condiments. — Beatriz Marie D. Cruz
