AS Monaco defender Eric Dier (32) has sustained a muscle injury, Filipe Luís has confirmed. Awaiting further tests, he is out of Thursday evening’s game against CSKA Sofia in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
The former Tottenham Hotspur player has enjoyed a revival this season. He was frequently injured last season and so struggled to get into a rhythm. CEO Thiago Scuro hypothesised that he could leave over the summer, however, he remained and not only that, he has been a first-choice option for the Principality club, even going on to wear the armband.
However, he could now be set for a period on the sidelines. He didn’t make the trip to Bulgaria on Wednesday. Luís officialised his absence. “Eric felt discomfort in his qudriceps today (Wednesday). We will have to see how that pain evolves in the coming days to know if he will play at the weekend or not,” said the Monaco manager.
Les Monégasques face FC Lorient on Sunday in Ligue 1. Against CSKA Sofia, it is Frenchman Christian Mawissa who is expected to replace Dier and play alongside Sadibou Sané.
