Chelsea injury update as Emi Martinez hospitalised after Everton collision
Chelsea secured an important 2-0 win over Everton, but the main concern after full-time centred on Emi Martinez following a serious second-half collision at Stamford Bridge.
The goalkeeper was stretchered off after a heavy 50-50 challenge with Jarrad Branthwaite, an incident that halted play for an extended period and left players and staff visibly concerned. Both men received treatment on the pitch, although Martinez came off significantly worse and required around ten minutes of medical attention before being taken away for further assessment.
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso moved quickly to offer reassurance afterwards, confirming the Argentina international had been taken to hospital for checks rather than as a result of any immediate deterioration. “As far as I know, he left the stadium conscious,” Alonso confirmed. “Now he is in the hospital doing precautionary tests. Let’s see, but this is what I know so far.”

Martinez concern overshadows Chelsea win
Before the injury, Martinez had produced an assured display and was a key figure in preserving Chelsea’s lead. He made strong saves from Jack Grealish and Thierno Barry, helping set the platform for what ultimately became the club’s first clean sheet since mid-January.
His replacement, Mike Penders, settled well and delivered an impressive cameo, showing composure as Chelsea closed out the result without conceding.
Pedro Neto leads Chelsea past Everton
Pedro Neto proved decisive at the other end, scoring both goals to ensure Chelsea collected all three points. After the match, his thoughts were with his team-mate rather than his own contribution. “Shame for Emi but we wish him all the best,” said Neto at full-time. “This win is for him. We are really happy, but our heads are with him. Emi deserved (the clean sheet) so we are really happy.”
Chelsea are expected to provide a further Chelsea injury update once Martinez has completed the precautionary tests, with the hope inside the club that the full extent of the issue will soon become clearer.
