The OCIAA and MHAL conducted their boys golf fall championships and Section 9 qualifier this week.
On Tuesday, October 13, Austin Hand of Kingston won the OCIAA tourney with a 4-over-par 74 at the Powelton Club in Newburgh. The next three spots went to Fred Lyson of Monroe-Woodbury (76), Josh Bujno of Monroe-Woodbury (77) and Caleb Hoag of Valley Central (78).
On Thursday, October 15, Ty Monroe of Saugerties won the MHAL tourney with a 1-over-par 72 at the Apple Greens Golf Course in Highland. Three shots back were Nick Dentico of Rhinebeck, Hokai Liu of Rondout Valley and Brandon Simmons of Saugerties.
The Section 9 tournament is Monday, October 19, at the Monster in Monticello. The qualifiers will have to wait until next June to compete at the state championships. While the MHAL has been a fall golf league for many years, the OCIAA moved from spring competition to fall this year.
