ⓘ Nothing
Nothing is reportedly looking to add a Pro variant to its earbud portfolio. The Nothing Ear (3) Pro is expected to launch soon and come with some key improvements over the Nothing Ear (3).
Back in September of last year, Nothing released its Ear (3) earbuds, a more budget-friendly alternative to the Apple AirPods Pro 3. Then in July this year, the Nothing Ear (3a) were released as a budget version of the Ear (3). Now, it looks like the UK-based company is preparing for the launch of a Pro variant in the series.
On its community page, a member of the team posted a photo of Kingdra, a water-type Pokémon. That itself is not really a clue since Nothing has used various Pokémon names as internal codenames for their products. However, there hasn’t really been a pattern that would indicate which type of Pokémon identifies which product category. That said, a Reddit post from two months ago solves that mystery.
Kingdra is expected to be the codename for the Nothing Ear (3) Pro earbuds. Redditor Link_2011A found a support page for the Nothing Ear (3) Pro along with some internal information. The support page was quickly taken down, but the Redditor was able to find the “Kingdra” codename associated with the earbuds.
While the team member's post does not share any release date, it says “Coming Soon” with a caption, “It sleeps deep on the ocean floor to build its energy. It is said to cause tornadoes as it wakes.”
If true, these would become the first “Pro” tier earbuds from Nothing and would compete with the AirPods Pro 3 ($199 on Amazon), Galaxy Buds 4 Pro ($250 on Amazon), and others. There’s no information on the features just yet, but the Nothing Ear (3) ($130 on Amazon) came with 12 mm dynamic drivers, Static Spatial Audio support, a 55 mAh battery with up to 10 hours of playback, and the case supports wireless charging. They also advertise 45 dB ANC, LDAC, and an IP54 rating. The Pro variant could improve the ANC and battery life.
