The Met Office has announced the second named storm of the year, which is set to hit the UK this weekend.
Storm Boelo will bring strong winds and heavy rain to parts of northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland on Saturday and Sunday.
It will follow on a day after the country, including London, is expected to have been battered by Storm Austen.
Storm Austen is expected to bring heavy rain to the capital from around 11pm on Thursday, continuing long into Friday, with winds picking up to as much as 48mph by the afternoon.
It will then be the turn of northern regions of the UK to face stormy conditions with Storm Boelo – pronounced Boo-loh – arriving on the weekend.
A yellow warning for wind has been issued for the whole of mainland Scotland, the Western Isles, Orkney and the far north of England.
Chris Bulmer, Met Office deputy chief forecaster, said: “Storm Boelo will bring strong winds and heavy rain to Northern Ireland, Scotland and parts of northern England over the weekend, impacting the opposite end of the country to Storm Austen.
“Gusts of 70-80mph in exposed coastal areas and high ground are possible, with 50-60mph gusts more widely. The strong winds will be accompanied by heavy rain, making for an impactful weekend of weather. Severe weather warnings and forecast detail will continue to develop, so people should keep up to date with the forecast over the next few days.”
Storm Boelo is a separate low pressure system to Storm Austen, which is due to clears by Friday evening, the Met Office said.
Boelo will involve a deep area of low pressure, according to forecasters, bringing “impactful winds” on Saturday night and into Sunday to northern parts of the UK.
The Met Office said the weather effect will be “invigorated” by an active jet stream as it crosses the Atlantic before reaching Northern Ireland and western Scotland on Saturday afternoon.
Heavy rain will move in from the west through Saturday, spreading widely across the UK through the day. Wind strength will continue to build through the day.
A yellow warning for wind has been issued for the whole of mainland Scotland, the Western Isles, Orkney and the far north of England.
The yello warning in parts of Scotland and the northern reaches of England is in place from 6pm on Saturday to 9pm on Sunday. It warns of widespread gusts of 55-65mph and up to 70-80mph in more exposed coastal locations.
A separate yellow warning for wind has been issued for Northern Ireland from 6pm on Saturday to 3pm on Sunday, warning of 50-60mph gusts, with up to 65-75mph in exposed regions.
