KUALA LUMPUR: A government backbencher today expressed disappointment over the absence of ministers in the Dewan Rakyat as he prepared to speak during the policy-stage debate on the Supply Bill 2027.
Hassan Abdul Karim (PH-Pasir Gudang) said he wanted to support Budget 2027, which he believed contained several positive measures, but was disappointed that no minister was present to hear his views.
"Before proceeding with my debate, I would like to express my disappointment that not a single minister is present.
"I am a government backbencher and I want to support this Budget. There are many good things in it, but those most keen to hear what I have to say are my friends in the Opposition.
"But no one from the government is here," he said.
The policy-stage debate on Budget 2027 is scheduled to run until Oct 22, following its tabling by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Oct 9.
Ministers are scheduled to deliver their winding-up speeches over four days, starting next week.
