(ANSA) - ROMA, 15 OTT - The Consulate General of Italy in New York participated in the Columbus Day celebrations, which honor the Italian-American community, traditions, and achievements that have helped shape the ties between Italy and the United States.
Consul General Giuseppe Pastorelli took part in all the events, beginning with the annual gala of the Columbus Citizens Foundation, held at Cipriani Wall Street—an initiative that also supports the Foundation’s educational mission and scholarship programs. The consulate then participated in the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at Columbus Circle to pay tribute to Christopher Columbus. A Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, followed by the traditional Columbus Day parade along Fifth Avenue. The Consul General marched alongside the Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies, Giorgio Mulè, and representatives of the Italian and Italian-American communities and associations.
As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, the consulate notes, this year’s celebrations provided an important opportunity to recognize the enduring contribution made by Italians and Italian Americans to American society.
