Cam Little is happy enough with his celebration against the Philadelphia Eagles, and he’s also OK with Dave Portnoy not being OK with it. Little gave the Jacksonville Jaguars a 19-17 victory over the Eagles with his 57-yard field goal as time expired at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Sunday.
His animated celebration — flinging his arms out wide like England soccer star Jude Bellingham in the aftermath of the winner — didn’t sit well with Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy, who heavily criticized it on social media. According to Portnoy, that’s not the role a kicker should have in football. A kicker should never be the center of attention, the controversial sports pundit said.
On Tuesday on “Wake Up Barstool,” Little took the opportunity to address Portnoy’s comments:
“I don’t have anything bad to say about Dave. he can say as much bad stuff about me. I love his pizza reviews. … I hope Dave reconsiders his comments about the kickers after hearing that,” Little said.
Little is in his third season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who selected him during the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft from the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Little holds the record for the longest NFL field goal, at 68 yards. He also kicked a 70-yarder in preseason.
What did Dave Portnoy say about Cam Little’s celebration?
On Monday on “Wake Up Barstool,” Dave Portnoy had the following to say about Cam Little’s celebration during Sunday’s victory:
“The kicker should never be in the spotlight. You should never put a kicker on your shoulder. A kicker should never be a look-at-me. Then, you have the Oklahoma kicker being like ‘give me the hat’ after the game. I think kickers should have their mouths duct-taped shut during the entire game.”
Suffice it to say that this is a rather old-school vision of football.
