Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — DataVolt is nearing completion of the first phase of a green data centre in Uzbekistan, with an investment of US$200 million and an initial capacity of 12 MW. The facility’s capacity is planned to increase to 500 MW, with the first phase scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov said.
According to the minister, executives from DataVolt and Vision Invest Group recently visited the site to assess construction progress. The facility is being equipped with modern power supply and liquid cooling systems, with energy efficiency and sustainability prioritised in its design.
Shermatov said Uzbekistan is ready to provide data centre services powered by green energy. Companies that need computing capacity without investing in their own facilities can work with local partners such as DataVolt, which plans to offer capacity of up to 500 MW.
Investors willing to invest more than US$100 million in data centres may qualify for tax incentives and access to affordable electricity in Karakalpakstan. The ministry is ready to support such projects in the same way it is supporting DataVolt’s development.
Mohammad Abunayyan, chairman of Vision Invest Group and a member of DataVolt’s board of directors, said he believes that, alongside Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia is the only other country combining renewable energy and green hydrogen resources.
He said this combination could enable a round-the-clock supply of green electricity in Uzbekistan. “For a data centre, this is a matter of reliability — the ability to have a secure power supply 24 hours a day,” Abunayyan said.
He noted that solar and wind power plants typically operate for eight to 10 hours a day. According to him, the new project is designed to ensure a continuous energy supply.
