Anyone who has spent a Durga Puja evening pandal-hopping in Kolkata knows the drill. You walk for hours, stand in seemingly endless queues, jostle through crowds and wait patiently for your turn to catch a glimpse of the idol. And just when you think you have had enough, another pandal catches your eye.
That's the magic of Puja. But the exhaustion is real, too. This year, Center Fruit found a fun way to bring a little relief to the experience. At Dum Dum Park Tarun Sangha, the brand set up the ‘Pujo Lap Lap Star Challenge’, inviting visitors to take a ten-second test for a chance to enjoy some special treatment.
The rules were simple. The challenge, perhaps, not quite as easy as it sounded.
A giant inflatable Center Fruit installation and a team of promoters caught the attention of pandal-hoppers making their way through the crowds. Those who stopped to find out more were invited to take on the challenge.
All they had to do was go “Lap Lap Lap” as quickly and clearly as possible within ten seconds.
Easy? Not necessarily.
With the clock ticking, getting the words out without stumbling became a fun little test. What began as a quick challenge soon turned into a moment of laughter and excitement, with participants giving it their best shot.
And there was more at stake than simply getting the words right. Those who completed the challenge successfully earned the title of ‘Pujor Lap Lap Stars’ and an invitation to a specially designed gazebo at the venue. For anyone who had spent hours walking around the city or waiting in a queue, the prospect of stepping away from the heat and crowds was a welcome one.
Inside the gazebo, winners could put their feet up, catch their breath and enjoy a little pampering. Cold water, refreshing wet towels, cakes and cookies were on offer, along with exclusive Amazon vouchers.
It was a thoughtful change of pace from the usual Puja routine. No more shuffling forward in a queue for a few minutes. No need to keep moving with the crowd. Just a chance to sit back and enjoy the moment.
The idea behind the activation was refreshingly straightforward. Rather than asking people to stop and look at a brand, Center Fruit gave them something to do. And for those who won, there was a little reward waiting at the end.
The ‘Pujor Lap Lap Star’ identity added to the fun, turning an everyday visitor into the star of a small celebration. It was a playful way to make the interaction feel personal, even in the middle of one of Kolkata's busiest festive settings.
Durga Puja is full of grand sights and larger-than-life celebrations. Brands, too, find plenty of ways to be part of the festivities. But sometimes, it is the smaller experiences that stay with people.
At Dum Dum Park Tarun Sangha, the Center Fruit challenge brought together a simple game, a few laughs and a much-needed break from the crowds. It gave visitors a reason to pause in the middle of their pandal-hopping plans and enjoy something they hadn't quite expected.
Because Puja is not just about the pandals we visit or the idols we see. It is also about the little things that happen along the way, the unexpected encounters, the shared laughter and the moments that make an already memorable evening a little more special. And sometimes, all it takes is ten seconds and three little words.
