Sheffield United have signed London City Lionesses goalkeeper Sophie Hillyerd on an emergency loan deal.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Pride last night.
The 23-year-old stopper makes the temporary move to South Yorkshire to cover for Sheffield United goalkeeper Poppy Soper who is currently out injured. Hillyerd will hope to benefit from some much needed minutes in her time at Bramall Lane.
Hillyerd joined London City Lionesses from West Ham United back in summer 2023. The player arrived at the Kent club with a lot of potential, however, she sustained a long-term injury soon after signing on which significantly hindered her progress. Hillyerd returned to fitness ahead of last season and was named on the London City Lionesses bench on several occasions. The youngster also spent some time on loan at Watford where she helped the club to win the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division title and promotion to Barclays WSL2.
It is understood that Hillyerd has been registered by Sheffield United prior to this afternoon’s Subway Players Cup fixture against Nottingham Forest at The Attis Arena. She is therefore eligible to feature for The Blades in that match.
