Madò Farta, the anonymous, masked figure who has been present at various protests against overtourism this year, was required to identify herself to police on Saturday.
The fair in Santanyi took place on Saturday. A number of posters appeared in the centre of Santanyi. These posters, against overcrowding, were on traffic signs and walls and were in violation of local bylaws. Madò Farta, present at the fair, was responsible.
The police approached her and ordered her to identify herself. Because of the anonymity, she asked if this could be done in a police car so that people would not see her face. The police agreed to this.
The town hall confirms that the identification was because of the violation of ordinances regarding the posting of signs in public spaces. It was not because of her act of protest, an explanation that contradicts her own version of events.
