A woman in an allegedly intoxicated condition abused and tried to attack former chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday evening in front of her Kalighat residence while she was on the way to inaugurate a Durga Puja pandal at Kalighat.
The Trinamool has claimed the accused identified as Tannishtha Saha is a civic volunteer.
“Mamata di was walking when this woman fell in front of her and started abusing her. She was also carrying a knife and tried to hit her on the foot. This appears pre-planned,” said Kunal Ghosh, the Beleghata MLA and a Mamata-loyalist.
The Mamata Trinamool’s Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen later lodged a complaint with the Kalighat police station.
In her complaint the Rajya Sabha MP wrote that the woman had had claimed to be a niece of the former chief minister. Sen said the attack raised question how the Z-plus category security accorded to a former chief minister was breached.
She said that she had submitted some photographs to the police.
“She was hurling abusive languages and in an intoxicated manner tried to violently approach Mamata Banerjee and even lied down on the road to hurt the former chief minister of Bengal. It is concerning that someone like the attacker could approach in the gates of a Z-plus category security holder raising questions in of a larger conspiracy,” Sen wrote in her complaint.
The former Bengal chief minister had returned from Delhi last night after spending the weekend meeting members of the INDIA bloc and protests against the SIR process and demands for the resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
She had given a call for a rally from Rajabazar to Park Circus against the SIR, but did not attend the march where other party leaders had participated.
