NTR Memorial Trust (NMT) managing trustee Nara Bhuvaneswari inaugurated the NTR Memorial Trust Blood Bank in Vijayawada on Friday.
On the occasion, Ms. Bhuvandeswari said blood donation was a noble gesture that every healthy individual should do to save lives, and that the NMT stood as a symbol of service, trust and reassurance for the people.
Recalling the vision of former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao, she said he had immense love for people and considered working for their welfare an integral part of his life. He had always wanted to improve the living standards of ordinary people and ensure that even the last person in society had access to a better life.
The NMT was already operating blood banks in Guntur, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Rajamahendravaram, and it had been working across several areas, including healthcare, education, women’s empowerment, livelihood support and providing access to safe drinking water.
Ms. Bhuvaneswari expressed concern over the challenges faced by children suffering from thalassemia, who require regular blood transfusions and whose families often live with constant anxiety over access to safe and timely treatment.
Keeping this in view, the NMT launched a programme in Hyderabad in 2025 to provide free blood to children with thalassemia through its Thalassemia Care Centre. A similar facility would soon be established in Vijayawada, she added.
