All train services between Rambukkana and Peradeniya–Gampola have been temporarily suspended from midnight today (25) until further notice, the Department of Railways announced.
The decision was taken after a landslide became active near Kadigamuwa Railway Station, between Rambukkana and Peradeniya, causing soil to wash onto the railway track amid adverse weather conditions.
The department said emergency repair work was carried out yesterday (24) and today to restore the track as quickly as possible. However, the risk of further earth and soil collapses remains high due to continued heavy rainfall in the area.
Train services will remain suspended until repairs are completed and the railway line is confirmed to be fully safe for operations.
Passengers who have paid for reserved seats on trains scheduled to operate during the suspension period can obtain a full refund at any railway station, the department added. (Newswire)
