KUALA LUMPUR: The opposition respects the Conference of Rulers' call for the Negri Sembilan throne crisis to be resolved by the relevant authorities through legal channels.
Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the matter should be settled in accordance with the provisions and procedures set out in the Laws of the Constitution of Negri Sembilan 1959.
"Therefore, all parties must give proper space to the valid legal and customary mechanisms to determine the best resolution in an orderly and wise manner, to safeguard the sovereignty of the royal institution, the rule of law, and in turn for the wellbeing of the people of Negri Sembilan," he said in a statement today.
The Malay Rulers said in a statement yesterday that outsiders should not interfere in or politicise the dispute over the Negri Sembilan throne.
They called for the matter to be resolved by the relevant authorities through proper legal and customary channels.
The Rulers also called for differences to be settled in accordance with adat and the Laws of the Constitution of Negri Sembilan 1959, warning that contradictory and irresponsible statements would only worsen the situation.
