The Sikkim government’s tourism and civil aviation department will organise the Sikkim Adventure Tourism Fest 2026 from November 1 to 7 at Linkhim Tar in Namchi district.
Linkhim Tar, around 6,500 feet above sea level, is about 45 kilometres from Gangtok. The department selected the site because of its scenic mountain valleys and suitability for adventure tourism.
“The festival is the first of its kind in Sikkim. It will help boost the state’s economy and attract more visitors by showcasing its diverse outdoor experiences,” said Tenzing Geley, additional director (adventure) of the tourism and civil aviation department.
An official source said the week-long festival aims to position Sikkim as a leading adventure tourism destination by showcasing more than 20 activities across air, land and water in all six districts.
The initiative also aims to promote sustainable tourism, encourage local participation and create livelihood opportunities.
Major attractions will include zip-lining, river rafting, paragliding, hot-air ballooning and obstacle challenges. The festival will also feature trekking expeditions and nature-based activities across different districts, the official said.
Manoj Chettri, deputy director (adventure) in the department, highlighted paragliding as a key attraction.
He said the participating team members had been trained and registered under the ‘Sikkim INSPIRES’ programme. Participants would also receive insurance coverage, he added.
An official said the festival would also promote cycling and trekking routes, including the Heart of Sikkim Trek and the Dzongri–Singalila Round Trek. Tour de Sikkim will feature a mountain biking expedition covering approximately 253km along the historic Silk Route, reaching an altitude of around 14,000 feet. Bicycle rentals will be available at nominal rates, he said.
The festival will also promote birdwatching experiences in east and west Sikkim.
Namgyal Lepcha, undersecretary in the tourism and civil aviation department, also revealed the roadmap for the Gangtok Adventure Relay and said the participation fee would be ₹7,500 per person.
Registration will be available on the official festival website https://adventurefest.sikkimtourism.co.in. An offline ticketing counter will be set up at MG Marg in Gangtok.
