Actress Sandra Hüller, the Oscar-nominated star of Anatomy of a Fall who also appeared in Project Hail Mary, is set to make a cameo in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday.
News of Hüller’s secretive role comes as directors Anthony and Joe Russo enter post-production on Avengers: Doomsday, ahead of its December 18 release.
While plot details remain under wraps, Downey’s Doctor Doom is expected to pose the heroes’ greatest threat yet. Speculation about Hüller’s role has ranged from playing Doom’s mother to portraying one of the Latverian Witches, first teased by Marvel at this year’s Comic-Con.
Hüller’s Avengers: Doomsday cameo marks her fifth major feature in 2026, following Project Hail Mary, Rose, Fatherland and Digger, all of which are in contention during this year’s awards season. She earned her first Best Actress Oscar nomination in 2024 for Anatomy of a Fall, one of two Best Picture nominees featuring the German actress that year, alongside The Zone of Interest. The latter won two Oscars, including Best International Feature, while Anatomy of a Fall won Best Original Screenplay.
Marvel Studios recently showcased Downey’s Doctor Doom in a special look at Avengers: Doomsday during the D23 presentation, offering fans a first extended glimpse of the new villain.
The film is expected to bring together heroes from Earth-616, Earth-828 and other universes as they confront Doom, whose threat could have consequences for the multiverse. The story reportedly takes place 14 months after the events of Thunderbolts*.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday features a large ensemble cast, including Downey, Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Atwell, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn.
