Durga Puja is almost here, and men’s fashion is moving quite fast, bringing in fusion even in ethnic wear without compromising on comfort. To get a better understanding, My Kolkata got in touch with designer Surbhi Pansari, who recommended four distinctive menswear for the festive days, with silhouettes and details that can take you through with ease.
Saptami with embroidered aesthetics
For Saptami, Pansari suggested a burgundy embroidered kurta from her collection, which comes with sequins on the front. The outfit can go with coordinated flared copper trousers. “The rich burgundy brings an earthy, jewel-toned quality to the look, while the embroidery and sequin detailing add a festive finish” she said. The combination of the kurta and flared trousers keeps the silhouette rooted in traditional dressing while giving it a contemporary edge — a perfect combination to kickstart the celebrations.
Ashtami goes with the freshness of green
Pansari suggested that on Ashtami, bright and vivid colours must do the talking — showing a green guacamole kurta set with a jacket carrying motifs drawn from nature, highlighted with threadwork and sequins. You can pair up this kurta with a beige or pistachio trousers. “The layered palette gives the look a bright, nature-inspired feel while keeping the focus on intricate detailing,” Pansari said.
Stand out on Navami by stepping into the wilderness
For Navami, Pansari suggested a midnight-blue kurta altered with a ‘Wilderness Butterfly’ jacket. The jacket alleviates the elegance of the outfit with its intricate patterns translated through fine delicate lines, textures and craftsmanship.
“The collection describes the forest inspiration here as not merely rustic, but “regal and mysterious”, reflected in the deep blue and nature-inspired detailing,” she said.
Bid Maa Durga farewell, but dazzle in bright shades
For Dashami, Pansari suggests pairing a pink-toned jacket with rich hand embroidery with a muted beige ensemble underneath. “The contrast between the brighter embroidered layer and the understated base creates a polished festive look, while keeping embroidery at the centre of the design,” she said.
The designer highlighted that for menswear, the rule is to let the earthy tones speak for itself leaving room for embroidery — an artistry that not only complements the festive mood, but also nods to Indian handicraft.
