The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has introduced two payment verification numbers in its online e-challan system to improve cargo delivery security, speed up services and prevent fraud.
Under the updated system, e-challans generated through the port's Terminal Operating System (TOS) will include the R Number of the Bill of Entry, confirming payment of customs duties and taxes, and the CP Number, confirming payment of port fees and charges.
In a press release issued today (13 October), the CPA said the changes would allow relevant departments to verify payments to both Customs and the port authority more easily before permitting cargo-carrying vehicles to leave the port.
The online e-challan serves as the final document for cargo gate-out and delivery. The two verification numbers will help ensure that all applicable duties, taxes and port charges have been paid before cargo is released.
The authority said the new feature would help prevent fraudulent activities and make the final gate-out and delivery process more secure, transparent and efficient.
Importers, consignees, shipping agents, clearing and forwarding (C&F) agents and other port users have been asked to use the updated online facility to access services safely and without disruption.
