The city of Medellín will host a thrilling edition of the Antioquia derby between Atlético Nacional and Independiente Medellín this Wednesday, with a place in the Copa BetPlay semifinals at stake in a single-leg match at the Atanasio Girardot stadium.
Heavy police presence and aerial surveillance
To maintain public order with both sets of supporters in attendance, the Mayor’s Office and the Metropolitan Police have deployed around 900 officers, supported by the Halcón helicopter. The operation includes three strategic security cordons around the stadium and its entrances to prevent fireworks or prohibited items from being brought in, following the incidents at the 2025 final.
Stand allocations and peaceful coexistence
Independiente Medellín supporters will occupy the north stand, while Atlético Nacional fans will be in the south and east stands, with both sets of supporters sharing the west stand. Age restrictions for minors have also been set according to the seating area. Nacional’s board issued a strong appeal to its supporters to represent the club with respect and tolerance, showing that the passion of football can be enjoyed in complete peace.
