German outfit DS Tankers has sold the 15-year-old, Dalian-built VLCC DS Vision to undisclosed interests for $96m, well below VesselsValue’s $161m valuation.
In a comparable deal, the older, 2004-built Southern Emperor, also built at Dalian is reported selling for $110m.
The low price tag for DS Vision is explained by the fact that the buyer will not take delivery of the ship before May 2027. The sale will leave the outfit with just one vessel, the 2011-built VLCC DS Venture. Dr Peters-associated DS Tankers has steadily been cutting its exposure to shipping.
