The Czech Regional Development Ministry is setting up an advisory team to address problems in the rental market, as the number of households living in rented accommodation continues to grow.
The team will include ministry officials and representatives of landlords, tenants and municipalities, with other ministries involved as needed. Its aim is to find compromises between the different groups.
One issue under discussion will be the length of rental contracts, which often run for just one year. Critics say this contributes to uncertainty for tenants, while landlords are calling for greater protection against tenants who fail to pay their rent.
While in 2020 around a fifth of Czech households lived in rented accommodation, the proportion rose to a quarter last year and is still growing.
