The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) on Thursday announced key leadership changes taking effect next year, with president and chief executive officer Jose Teodoro “TG” Limcaoco set to transition to senior roles in other Ayala Group companies by April 2027.
BPI executive vice president and head of consumer banking Maria Cristina “Ginbee” Go will take on the role of president and chief executive officer effective April 26, 2027, following the bank’s annual stockholders’ meeting and subject to necessary approvals.
"I believe that leadership transitions provide us with rare opportunities to both look at what has come before, while also embracing the things that have yet to come. As a company with a history of reinvention and longevity, we have always encouraged transitions as a central principle of building enduring institutions. Constant renewal has always enabled us to be relevant to the stakeholders that we serve,” BPI chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala said in an emailed statement.
Go, a 23-year BPI veteran, also previously served as president of BPI Family Savings Bank, where she led its transformation and integration into BPI. She will be the first female president and CEO of BPI, the country’s oldest bank.
Go also played a pivotal role in modernizing BPI's consumer banking franchise, deepening customer relationships, expanding the Bank's retail footprint, and strengthening the integration of physical and digital banking capabilities.
With Go as head of consumer banking, BPI was able to strengthen its market position across key products, expand its customer base, enhance its customer experience, modernize its nationwide distribution, and accelerate digital innovation.
Go held leadership positions at Citibank, Ayala Land, and Procter & Gamble. She is a Certified Public Accountant and was the topnotcher in the 1991 CPA Licensure Examination. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman and earned her MBA with honors from Harvard Business School.
Go will succeed Limcaoco, who will remain a member of the BPI Board of Directors and will take on senior governance roles in other Ayala Group companies following the transition. Details were not immediately available.
“TG has brought BPI to tremendous new heights as CEO over the past five years, and we are grateful for the strong platform that we will now be building upon. Under his leadership, BPI saw a period of significant transformation across digital, financial inclusivity, and sustainability,” Zobel de Ayala said.
“Likewise, I am excited for the new prospects ahead under Ginbee’s stewardship. Amidst some volatility in the global and domestic environment, there are notable opportunities, particularly as the Filipino consumer sector grows, becomes more sophisticated, and seeks a trusted partner in achieving financial stability and success," he added.
Limcaoco was appointed president and CEO in 2021 and has since led BPI’s expansion, which now has over 19 million customers nationwide and employs over 23,000 Filipinos. The Asian Banker named him Best Bank CEO in the Philippines this year. —AOL, GMA News
