ISLAMABAD: The term of the Sindh High Court’s constitutional benches has been extended for one year, ARY News reported.
A meeting of the Judicial Commission was held under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi.
The meeting deliberated on the term of the SHC’s constitutional bench, which was set to expire on October 25.
The Judicial Commission decided to extend the term of the SHC constitutional benches by one year.
Prior to this, the Chief Justice welcomed new members to the Judicial Commission: the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The new members joined the commission after two of its previous members, Farooq H. Naek and Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, resigned.
The constitutional benches of the High Court of Sindh (SHC) were established following the 26th Constitutional Amendment and the High Court of Sindh Constitutional Benches (Practice and Procedure) Act, 2025, which was enacted on January 10, 2026.
Nine judges were initially approved for these benches by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.
Regular division benches (D.B.) and single benches (S.B.) operate across the principal seat in Karachi, as well as circuit benches and courts in Sukkur, Hyderabad, Larkana, and Mirpurkhas, under updated monthly and weekly rosters.
