The NFL plans Super Bowl host cities years in advance, and one city is always hopeful to be on the short list: Philadelphia.
The City of Brotherly Love has never hosted The Big Game despite being home to an NFL organization. Why is that? Well, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell gave the answer to 94WIP's Eliot Shorr-Parks on Sunday. The short answer is, the Philadelphia Eagles need a new stadium.
But, that isn't the only reason. Cities also need to be able to host hundreds of thousands of guests from out of town. Philadelphia would need to make some infrastructure adjustments to be put on the Super Bowl hosting list.

...
"Well, maybe when they do that stadium. The stadium is a big part of it," Goodell said. "Listen, that's our stage, right? It has become more and more difficult for communities to be able to do it because the infrastructure is so necessary. We now have at least 50,000 [hotel] rooms required for that. But, we also have so many other parties and other events that go around the Super Bowl. And, the number of people who come into a city who don't ever have a ticket to the game. So, we're getting close to 200,000 people who come in just for the festivities around the game. So, it's a big push on the infrastructure for a community."
The Eagles don't have any concrete plans to build a new stadium at the moment. But, the contract for Lincoln Financial Field ends after the 2032 season, so there's a good opportunity to re-evaluate the franchise's long-term plans. The team could opt to undergo renovations or completely build a new stadium. It sounds like if Philadelphia ever wants to host the Super Bowl, then they'll need to do the latter.
