Vehicles are backed up on the Canso Causeway due to the swing bridge being stuck open Tuesday morning.
Traffic is backed up on the causeway and drivers in Port Hastings heading west off Cape Breton Island.
Nova Scotia Public Works said staff are on site trying to determine what mechanical issue has caused the bridge to stay open.
At 11:30 a.m., Public Works did not have an expected timeline for when the bridge would be fixed.
According to the 511 website, the Canso Causeway was closed around 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday.
Highway 104 in both directions going on and off of the Canso Causeway is closed for the time being.
