ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – The University of Texas completed a sweep of the team championships Wednesday at the St. Andrews Links Collegiate, defeating host University of St. Andrews in both the men’s and women’s medal match-play finals on the historic Old Course.
Strong winds provided a fitting test at the Home of Golf as Texas capped a dominant week by carrying its stroke-play success into the finale.
The host Saints, meanwhile, enjoyed a breakthrough week of their own. Both the men’s and women’s teams advanced to the championship matches for the first time in program history, earning the opportunity to compete for titles in front of a home crowd.
The men’s championship remained competitive throughout the afternoon as St. Andrews battled the Longhorns shot for shot. The decisive moment came on the closing hole, where Texas sophomore Brooks Simmons delivered under pressure. With the team title in balance, Simmons hit a clutch approach into the 18th green to help secure the final point. The victory, 4 1/2 to 1 1/2, capped a dominant week for the Longhorn men, who also claimed the stroke-play title and produced the tournament’s individual champion in junior Daniel Bennett.
Just ahead, the Texas women completed the first half of the sweep. Behind a balanced lineup that included co-medalist Farah O’Keefe, the Longhorns gradually pulled away from the Saints to secure the women’s championship, 5-1.
While Texas left St. Andrews with both team championships, the Saints proved they belonged on the big stage. Strong performances throughout stroke play helped both teams reach the finals for the first time, capping a landmark week for the host program.
In the consolation matches, the Pennsylvania women defeated Washington, while Washington’s men earned a victory over Pennsylvania.
With another memorable edition of the championship complete, attention now turns to next year. The St. Andrews Links Collegiate returns October 11-13, 2027, when a new field featuring Auburn, Arizona State, Yale, and the University of St. Andrews will compete across the Jubilee Course and the Old Course in pursuit of one of collegiate golf’s most unique international titles.
