KULAI: The Home Ministry has left matters concerning the position of Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain to the ministry's secretary-general and the Chief Secretary to the Government.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the matter was being handled in accordance with existing civil service regulations.
"The matter is being handled between my ministry's secretary-general and the Chief Secretary to the Government," he said when asked to comment on the issue.
Saifuddin was speaking to reporters after launching the 78th National Registration Day celebration and the launch of the National Registration Department's (NRD) Kampung Angkat Madani and Sekolah Angkat Madani (SAM) initiatives for 2026 at Kampung Melayu Sedenak today.
Commenting on criticism from opposition members of parliament, who claimed he had failed to mediate in the dispute involving MCBA and its personnel, Saifuddin said he accepted the criticism with an open mind.
However, he also questioned the ability of opposition leaders to play the role of peacemakers when their own parties were facing divisions, including a conflict between groups supporting Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Earlier, opposition members of parliament questioned Saifuddin's failure, as Home Minister, to adopt a family-oriented approach in addressing the issue involving Shuhaily and the two police personnel.
During the debate on the 2027 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat, opposition members of parliament expressed hope that action against Shuhaily could be withdrawn.
They also questioned the speed of the prosecution process and whether there was a specific agenda, particularly in relation to the "corporate mafia" issue.
Shuhaily pleaded not guilty at the Sepang magistrate's court to two charges of voluntarily causing hurt to police personnel Faiz Saman and Ekmal Sofwan Dirman at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Sept 28.
