I’M READY TO D!E, MY ATTACKERS HAVE 30 DAYS TO APOLOGISE, SAYS DAVIES MWILA.
Former Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Davies Mwila has given the people he accuses of attacking him at the Supreme Court in Lusaka 30 days to apologise to him and the nation.
Mr Mwila says he is ready to die for Zambia, alleging that members of the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) are after his life.
Speaking to journalists at Longacres Police Post, where he went to report the incident, Mr Mwila said he expected those responsible for the alleged attack to apologise within 30 days.
He accused people he described as associates of Clement Tembo of being behind the incident, insisting that he had done nothing to provoke them.
Mr Mwila said his previous positions as Cabinet minister and PF Secretary General, as well as his status as a senior citizen, meant he deserved to be treated with respect.
“I’m giving those who attacked me 30 days to apologise to me and the nation. I’m a gentleman. I don’t insult or fight. I was a Cabinet minister, Secretary General and a senior citizen. I’m not supposed to be treated like this,” he said.
He also warned the ruling party that no government remains in power forever, pointing to the end of Kenneth Kaunda’s 27-year rule and the PF’s loss of power after 10 years in government.
“Government changes. Who thought Kaunda would leave power after 27 years? Who thought the PF would leave power after 10 years? Even these people will leave power. But I’m ready for them,” he said.
When asked by a journalist what he meant by saying he was ready for them, Mr Mwila said he was prepared to die for Zambia.
“I’m ready to be killed because that is what UPND does, they killed a young man in Chawama for playing BM8 song, they killed kafwaya and now want to kill me” he said.
Mr Mwila ended his remarks with the Bemba saying, “Pafwa bantu pashala bantu,” meaning that when some people die, others remain.
His remarks follow the reported confrontation at the Supreme Court earlier today, where he was attacked by suspected UPND supporters.
