KIGALI, Rwanda, October 14, 2026 – Liberia has called for increased investment in agriculture, energy, technology and creative industries to accelerate Africa’s economic transformation, create jobs and improve living standards.
The call was made at the Innovate Africa Conference 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda, where Dr. Augustine Konneh, Senior Advisor to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, delivered the keynote address on behalf of Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung.
Speaking under the theme, “Driving the Next Trillion-Dollar Economies: Africa’s Creative, Agricultural, Technology and Energy Sectors,” Konneh urged African governments, investors and entrepreneurs to translate the continent’s vast resources into meaningful economic opportunities.
“The measure of success must extend beyond the size of our economies,” he said, stressing that economic growth should improve livelihoods, expand employment, increase access to capital and provide reliable electricity.
He emphasized that Africa’s transformation requires strong institutions, predictable policies, modern infrastructure and sustainable partnerships.
On agriculture, Konneh called for greater investment in financing, transportation, storage, processing and distribution to improve productivity and reduce post-harvest losses.
He stressed that smallholder farmers, women, cooperatives and young agribusiness entrepreneurs must benefit from agricultural expansion.
Addressing energy challenges, Konneh described reliable and affordable electricity as essential to industrial growth, healthcare delivery and technological advancement.
He urged governments to attract long-term investment in electricity generation, transmission, distribution and renewable energy while strengthening regional power cooperation.
On technology, the presidential adviser advocated increased support for African innovators through digital skills training, affordable internet connectivity, investment capital and improved market access.
He said technological advancement could transform agriculture, financial services, education, healthcare and public administration, but emphasized the importance of cybersecurity and data protection.
Konneh also highlighted the economic potential of Africa’s creative industries, including music, film, literature, design and cultural heritage.
He called for stronger intellectual property protection, professional training, production facilities and fair contracts to help African creators benefit financially from their work.
According to him, investments in creative enterprises could generate employment, strengthen tourism and expand access to international markets.
Konneh maintained that Africa’s economic transformation must ultimately be measured by improvements in citizens’ living conditions rather than economic growth figures alone.
