As the dust settles on the spring 2027 shows, the Vogue office is abuzz with excitement about the products that may, in just a few months’ time, land on shelves and racks near you. Of course, inevitably, not everything from the runway will make it into stores. But we’ve been watching closely and tossing out predictions as to which pieces shoppers could go feral for come next spring. What will be the Chanel pony hair flats of 2027? The Celine scarf?
It got us thinking: what, exactly, makes an “It-item?” Or, at very least, what makes a must-have, breakout product that everyone covets. There’s a large degree of inexplicable, designer magic to it—but also a little math. It-items tend to combine an exciting spark of newness with an ability to fit seamlessly into people’s closets. They aren’t the out-there pieces that make for a red carpet statement, or the boldest items that true, true fashion obsessives latch onto. There are plenty of other very cool pieces that become street style staples, but don’t inspire the same frantic desire.
Put more plainly, an It-item sits at the intersection of hot and shoppable.
So, we decided to plot it all out, using a few of the pieces we saw on the runway during fashion month. Below, a breakdown of our predictions.
📈The “It” List: Products that deftly walk the line between buzzy and easy to wear.

Joan Kennedy: It feels like cheating given how crazy everyone already is for Matthieu Blazy’s shoes, but I’m declaring this Chanel heel the next It-item. At least one or a few of the 83 heels he showed in the latest collection will, no doubt, be a breakout.
Prada’s exercise in repetition has already made getting more skirts in the rotation a priority for fashion lovers; With Celine Dion, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Hunter Schafer having stepped out in looks from the runway this week–I’m sensing a hit!
📉The Insider’s Club: Deep-cut, IYKYK runway pieces that are covetable to the tapped-in fashion follower.

Celine

The fringed raffia top-handle bags, I predict, will be hard to get and instant best-sellers among this crowd.
Joan: I’m already jealous of whoever actually manages to snag the antique lace looks in The Row’s latest collection.
Hannah Jackson: The gargantuan Celine cincher, with its thick, almost corset-like leather belt and equally outsized buckle, represents the pinnacle of the spring 2027 runway trend. That said, we’re not sure that it will be a hit product, but rather an inspiration point—a representation of the trend at its most extreme. While we may not be seeing this hyperbole of a belt all over the streets, we’re expecting it to thrive among the celebrity set and the real Michael Rider-heads who want to buy into his big belt vision.
📉The Wow Factor: Scroll-stopping pieces that are statement-making but unlikely to be seen beyond the red carpet.

Tom Ford

Joan: The bra is already a big trend in celebrity dressing. From the look of the runways, that’s set to continue. August Barron was one of the breakout shows of the season; this windswept look will surely find its way onto the right red carpet.
📈Critical Masses: Easy-to-buy pieces (or easy-to-recreate looks) that you’ll see everywhere.

Jil Sander

Christian: The Miu Miu x Wrangler collaboration was one of the most unexpected link-ups of fashion month—but a match made in heaven. The laced-up jeans had a slight skater vibe to them, and are super easy to incorporate into your wardrobe. (You can also easily DIY them—swap a button-up fly for lacing.)
Max Berlinger: Picking up on the Love Story/JFK Jr. mania of last spring, I’ve already seen a bunch of guys embracing the backwards newsboy cap. It’s distinctive and easy to wear, which I think will make it a buzzy item come next spring.
Alex: Dainty silk and satin bags have been everywhere—they feel very reminiscent of the ’90s and the recent craze that took over our screens, as Max mentioned. They’re also a bit impractical with our phones, but that’s kind of what makes them a modern luxury.
Alex: There’s no doubt that we’ll see Jil Sander-style colorful tights hit the streets before the spring collections even drop in stores. Sometimes that’s my favorite kind of fashion—when a designer makes you race out to recreate a style or a silhouette.
Joan: The most stylish people are already starting to step out in cummerbunds (and similarly-styled scarves tied around the waist). Come spring, the casual cummerbund could be an official staple.
