There are a couple of new editions to the list this week. First up, there’s The Witch by Freida McFadden, which appears to be a bit of a departure from the domestic thriller queen’s usual oeuvre. Puzzle books are also having a moment, as is evident by the two Murdoku books that made it to the top 10 of Amazon’s nonfiction list, though they only made it to one other list’s top 10 (Publishers Weekly).
This list continues to lack diversity on many levels, including being disproportionately by white authors. But there are, of course, some nonwhite authors who have made it to one or two lists. One such author is Tatsuki Fujimoto, author of the 22nd volume of Chainsaw Man that made it into the top 10 on USA Today’s list—a testament to the popularity of manga in the US.
There’s also In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood by Collin Gosselin, a sad tell-all by one of the children from the Jon & Kate Plus 8 reality show that made it onto the USA Today list, as well as the one for The New York Times. More new releases to know about are the graphic novel Huda F Would Love You? by Huda Fahmy and Employee No. 9 by Kim Hye-jin, which was translated from Korean by Jamie Chang.
To get these numbers, we look at The New York Times, both Combined Print & E-Book Fiction and Combined Print & E-Book Nonfiction lists; Amazon Charts, both Fiction and Nonfiction; Publishers Weekly; USA Today; and Indie Bestsellers, Fiction and Nonfiction, both Paperback and Hardcover.
