…sees $100m joint venture as strategic investment in national security, industrial development
Jacky Hathiramani, chief executive officer of DICON Dana Tactical Limited has commended the Ministry of Defence for its foresight in strengthening Nigeria’s indigenous defence manufacturing capacity, describing the $100 million joint venture as a strategic investment in national security and industrial development.
DICON Dana Tactical Limited is a joint venture (JV) established to strengthen Nigeria’s defence manufacturing capacity through local production of military vehicles, specialised vehicles and security equipment.
Leveraging Dana Motors’ automotive expertise and international partnerships, the initiative aims to develop domestic manufacturing capabilities, promote technology transfer and contribute to Nigeria’s national security objectives and long-term industrial growth.
Jacky said the initiative presents an opportunity to strengthen local defence manufacturing, support the operational needs of the Nigerian Armed Forces and reduce dependence on foreign supply chains for essential military equipment.
He commended the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, and the Ministry for their confidence in the initiative, noting that a nation’s defence capability depends not only on the equipment it acquires but also on its ability to manufacture, maintain and sustain critical equipment locally.
Jacky also extolled the vision and commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu towards the welfare of the Armed Forces and the provision of equipment needed to carry out their tactical responsibilities. He noted that the President’s focus on developing local capacity across sectors reflects a vision for a more industrialised and self-reliant Nigeria.
“We appreciate the Ministry of Defence’s confidence in this initiative and commend the President’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s capacity. This partnership presents an important opportunity to support our Armed Forces, develop local manufacturing expertise and build the industrial capabilities required to advance national security,” Jacky said.
The joint venture aligns with Nigeria’s ambition to expand its domestic defence industrial base through local manufacturing, technology transfer and skills development, while creating employment opportunities and strengthening local supply chains. Its success will depend on sustained public-private collaboration, investment in technical expertise and adherence to rigorous quality standards.
