The drought is finally over for Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby. The future Hockey Hall of Famer lit the lamp for the first time in the 2026-27 NHL season during Tuesday night’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center in Chicago.
The 39-year-old Crosby tied the score at 1-1 with a wrist shot 6:57 into the first period, beating Chicago goalie Spencer Knight for his first goal of his 22nd season in the NHL.

And with that goal, Crosby avoided setting a new personal record he surely never wanted to reach.
“Sidney Crosby scores his first goal of the season, He had been scoreless in his first 6 games this season, which was tied for the most games without a goal to start a season in his career,” ESPN Insights shared via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.
Erik Karlsson was credited with an assist on that goal from Crosby, who once failed to score a goal in six straight games to open the season during the 2018-19 campaign. Interestingly enough, that season was the last time Crosby managed to record at least 100 points, finishing the campaign with 35 goals and 65 assists in 79 games.
Crosby did not stop with that first-period goal, as he found the back of the net for the second time in the Blackhawks game in the third period off the assists from Connor Dewar and Samuel Girard to tie the score at 2-2.
