Australian mining giant BHP will cut hundreds jobs from its iron ore mines across Western Australia.
The miner expects about 300 operational roles will go from its Pilbara-based sites at South Flank, Mining Area C, Newman and Jimblebar.
A BHP spokesman said like any business they regularly reviewed how they worked to ensure they could continue to operate safely, effectively and productively.

“We are making some changes to ensure our WA iron ore business can continue to make a significant contribution to the Pilbara and WA and continue to be a major employer in the State,” a spokesman said.
“As we always do, we will seek to redeploy people into other roles elsewhere in the business where possible.
‘We will be working directly with our people on what this change means for them.”

BHP is currently working through the proposed changes and engaging with people affected by the process.
The mining giant produced almost 257 million tonnes of iron ore last year.
The company employs about 16,000 people across its WA iron ore mines.
