Organisers are mobilising young people across Buganda for the November 7 celebrations, with leaders urging them to embrace saving and investment to improve their livelihoods.
Preparations for Buganda Youth Day 2026 have officially begun following the launch of a committee tasked with organising the celebrations scheduled for November 7.
The Minister for Youth, Sports and Talent, Robert Sserwanga Ssaalongo, presided over the launch and called on young people, both within and outside Buganda, to participate in the planned activities.
Sserwanga emphasised the importance of the annual event as an opportunity for young people to reflect on their personal growth and development. He also encouraged them to cultivate a culture of saving to strengthen their financial stability and improve their livelihoods.
“Saving is an important step towards personal development, financial stability and improved livelihoods,” he said.
Joseph Balikuddembe Ssenkusu, chairperson of the board of Essuubiryo Zambogo SACCO, commended this year’s theme, which focuses on encouraging young people to invest their money.
Ssenkusu urged young people across Buganda to turn up in large numbers and take part in the celebrations.
He also called on committee members to mobilise young people and encourage them to acquire shares in the SACCO as a way of promoting saving and investment.
The preparatory committee is chaired by lawyer Derrick Kavuma, who also serves as chairperson of the Buganda Youth Council, alongside other members.
