YECHEON — Police searched the Yecheon County Office in North Gyeongsang Province after finding signs that personal information held by the local government had been leaked.
The Yecheon Police Station said on the 16th that it had dispatched investigators to the county office's general affairs division and public relations division from 10 a.m. that day to collect related materials and conduct digital forensic work.
The search followed the discovery of a suspected violation of the Personal Information Protection Act in the course of an investigation into an election-related case.
Local government officials have speculated that the search may be linked to allegations that some Yecheon County officials used work computers to intervene in the June 3 local elections.
A police official said, "We have not yet identified any suspects, and no link to the alleged election interference has been confirmed."
