Former Houston Texans star J.J. Watt has a new multi-year deal to serve as the lead analyst for the NFL on CBS, the network announced.
Watt will be paired with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson as CBS' lead announcing team.
"I've had a front-row seat to JJ's growth as a top-tier broadcaster, watching him tackle this role just like he did his hall-of-fame playing career," said CBS chairman David Berson. "He's insightful, entertaining, passionate, meticulous in his preparation, and the ultimate teammate. He has a unique ability to see things and communicate to fans of all levels. We are thrilled to have him leading our NFL coverage."
After his 12 years in the NFL, including 10 with the Texans, Watt joined CBS in 2023 as a studio analyst. He made the leap to the booth last season and drew rave reviews partnering with Ian Eagle as CBS's No. 2 crew.
When Tony Romo was placed on leave and later dismissed after a driving under the influence arrest, Watt moved up as lead analysist.
"I am incredibly honored and grateful to have the opportunity to represent CBS Sports and all of the fantastic people who make this place so special," said Watt. "From the brotherhood of THE NFL TODAY to my crews calling games, I couldn't ask for better teammates alongside me on this television journey. I am thankful to David Berson for his leadership, vision and trust. I love this job and can't wait to see ya Sunday with Jim and Tracy and many more Sundays to come!"
Watt was a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and was honored as the 2017 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year with the Teans. He was inducted into the team's Ring of Honor in 2023.
afted by Houston in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Wisconsin (No. 11 overall), Watt played 12 NFL seasons with the Texans (2011-20) and Arizona Cardinals (2021-22). A five-time NFL First-Team All Pro and five-time Pro Bowl selection, he is the only player in NFL history to record multiple seasons with at least 20 sacks and finished his career with 114.5 sacks.
